G Suite Gets DLP for Google Drive, Security Key, and More
Google has introduced several new upgrades to G Suite that focus on security and better management. It has announced a new G Suite Enterprise Edition - a more premium version of the suite that brings along Security Key enforcement, data loss prevention (DLP) for Google Drive, and S/MIME encryption for Gmail.
G Suite is a list of apps and services that the tech giant provides mainly to businesses, education institutions, and governments. It includes services like Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Sites, Forms, and more. Google claims that there are nearly 3 million paying businesses that rely on G Suite.
The new G Suite enhancement brings more control tools for company administrators. The introduction of Security Key as an added security option has been added, giving the admin the option to force-install physical key protection for all users. This Security Key feature adds a layer of physical security for all content across employees, and prevents phishing activities.
Furthermore, DLP arrives for Google Drive as well. In 2015, it was only employed for Gmail users. "Today, we're extending DLP to Google Drive, making it even easier for admins to secure sensitive data, control what content can be stored and protect users from accidentally sharing confidential information externally. G Suite's DLP protection goes beyond standard DLP with easy-to-configure rules and OCR recognition of content stored in images so admins can easily enforce policies and control how data is shared, the tech giant wrote in its blog post.
